Air travel has become the elephant in the room in any discussion of sustainable meetings. The carbon footprint associated with air travel is one of the most serious environmental concerns for face-to-face meetings. At present, it’s also one of the most difficult to solve.
Airlines are working to reduce their carbon footprint by introducing fuel-efficient practices and modernizing their fleets, while longer-term research focuses on a new generation of greener fuels. But air travel is often the least encouraging category when meeting professionals assess the sustainability of their events.
By attending this session participants will learn to:
• Discuss the new practices that airlines are introducing in an initial effort to reduce their carbon footprint
• Identify the route and aircraft choices available to meeting planners who want to reduce their reliance on carbon
• Evaluate the options for offsetting carbon
• Assess the future cost and current technological limits of green air travel
