Lindsay Smith is the Sustainable Programs Manager for the Colorado Convention Center (CCC). Ms. Smith works towards developing and implementing practices within the convention center to focusing on reduced energy consumption, water conservation, waste reduction and diversion, improved air quality, and education of the community and industry stakeholders. In her role, she also acts as a point person for clients wishing to implement sustainable practices into their events at the CCC. Most recently, this included working with the City of Denver and the Democratic National Convention to help in their efforts of producing a sustainable convention. Ms. Smith serves as Vice Co-Chair on the APEX Green Meetings & Events Practices Meeting Venues Committees, current President of the Green Meetings Industry Council Colorado Chapter, and a founding member of the EPA’s Rocky Mountain Green Venues Leadership Group.

Do we really know our impacts? How do facilities manage their waste stream as it relates to events? What are the reporting mechanisms used? This session will address resources that will streamline this information filter between facility suppliers and planners.

By attending this session participants will be able to:
• Explain the role waste management and diversion plays for reducing overall direct source impacts for the meetings and tradeshow industry.
• Evaluate case study examples from the GMIC Trash Action Challenge.
• Assess national and global waste management tools and reporting systems including EPA Wastewise, APEX standards, etc
