For many meeting professionals, suppliers as well as planners, the process of making meetings more sustainable can be a matter of responding to one objection after another. A resort property may refuse to introduce a towel reuse program; for fear that luxury guests will resent the intrusion. A five-star property might fret about a fatally poor rating if it replaces standard incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents (even in the valet parking area, where guests never set foot). It can seem like there are dozens of good reasons not to pursue common sense green meeting initiatives that reduce costs as well as environmental impacts. But guests, rating agencies, and other opinion leaders may already have answered some of the industry’s worst fears.

In this panel discussion, representatives of meeting facilities will discuss the barriers to sustainable meetings and discuss ways of overcoming them. By attending this session participants will learn to:
• How to identify objections that point to genuine challenges or limitations to green meetings.
• Which common objections have already been addressed or solved.
• How a continuing process of discussion and education can open up new options for making meetings more sustainable
