What role does the destination play in the success of a sustainable meeting/event? How does the planner develop an advance strategy to involve the destination in meeting the overall sustainable event goals and objectives as well as build an alliance between hotels and local vendors?

Destination management organizations and Convention and Visitors Bureaus, are the center of connecting valuable resources, and partners for a meeting or event, especially city wide events. As Planners identify their sustainable objectives, the first step in the meeting process often involves connecting with the destination to develop a partnership strategy. With new standards, BS8901 and APEX/ASTM, the pressure to track and measure commitments from destinations adds a new variable to partner expectations.

By attending this session participants will be able to:
• Evaluate green meeting destination standards for application in the marketplace.
• Identify strategies from destinations for effective communication of green meeting efforts aligned with current standards
• Review a case study from a corporate planner on how to create a criteria for selecting sustainable destinations
